Keratosis Pilaris and How You Can Eliminate It

by Gerald Levin Steinert

The skin condition of keratosis pilaris, or simply KP, is out there and very common. What its symptoms on the skin resemble are red and rough bumps. Often this skin condition is called chicken skin or red goose bumps. KP is know to affect around forty percent of the world population. This is one of the most irritating conditions out there because you will be scratching all over. That in addition is something that can easily lead to scabs. The KP symptoms are found on the back of the buttocks, the tops of arms, and the tops of the thighs. Many times adolescents will be the ones suffering KP. That goes even more so for children. It is more common in women than men.

This is a skin condition produced when the body produces excess keratin (the natural protein in the skin) that then surrounds and traps the hair follicles causing hard plugs to form which are the red dots that you see.

Let us note that this is not a life threatening condition. But you'll still want to get rid of it! And rest assured there are various treatment methods with which you can do just that. You can be happy again knowing you did what you could to clear up your skin's rough texture.

First you will want to exfoliate your skin well but not with a prescription quality scrub that will most often contain chemical ingredients that are very harsh on the sensitive skin the keratosis pilaris has affected nor with any type of exfoliation product containing benzoyl peroxide which further dries out your skin.

What is on the other hand recommended to treat the skin condition of KP is Vitamin A, or Retinoid. What this serves to accomplish is the natural acceleration of the rate at which sick and dead skin cells are eliminated. And that has the beneficial effect of clearing up blocked skin pores. And we all know from earlier in the article that blocked skin pores are the root cause of so many KP symptoms.

A second rather important piece of advice: There's a strong need throughout your bouts of suffering keratosis pilaris symptoms that an effective moisturizer be used. However at this stage of the condition your skin can only handle moisturizers consisting only of natural ingredients. Any other moisturizer and their harsh chemicals will be too burdensome. Maintain yourself and your moisturizer to only the best of natural ingredients. KP will be best served by the best of moisturizing ingredients out there on the market. We here like to recommend Vitamin E oil. The way in which you effectively take advantage of the power of Vitamin E oil is through inserting about five tablespoons of it in your warm water filled bathtub. Place some bubble soap in there, put on some classical music, light some candles, and soak yourself in it for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Review also what microdermabrasion can have in store for eliminating your KP symptoms. How does microdermabrasion work you may be asking yourself right now? Throughout this treatment you are performing on the uppermost layer of your skin a suction effect. This is through the use of a wire brush. It effectively sucks out even the hardest keritinized plugs. The end result should be a more smooth and more toned skin complexion.

Only strive to solve this problem with the most effective skin care remedy for keratosis pilaris.
