Natural Treatments for Acne
Did you know that laboratory researchers have proven that snail's slime contains great antimicrobial properties which act against bacteria of different kinds usually found in human skin infections? This biological antibiotic effect controls the pathogens present on the surface of the skin and in the skin pores and works like a wall between compromised skin surfaces and the environment.
Pathogens such as bacteria and viruses enter the body through cracks in your skin, or when they find a rich environment in which they can grow such as blocked and broken sebaceous glands inside the hair follicles (acne infections). As they obtain access to the blood stream they induce an increased immune system response. This activity interrupts the repair and healing process of skin that has been injured, and interferes with the regular lay down of your skin cells. Also, we see evidence erythema (redness) around the damaged site, as well as some superficial edema (swelling) and a stimulated synthesis and accumulation of collagen.
The human defensive reaction is a two-pronged attack. Natural immunity recognizes infectious agents by their pattern or composition, and creates a broad, quick reaction. Phagocytic cells (such as neutrophils and macrophages) and natural killer cells are released to fight the infection. A second type of immune reaction, adaptive (or acquired) immunity, takes various days to gear up its more specific attack. Adaptive immunity recognizes previous contact with a specific microbe and directs its defense against that specific invader with antibodies and T-cells. It is very important to have your natural antibodies working fully as infections spread rapidly.

Pharmaceutical antibiotics are frequently used to reduce the number of bacteria but they often cause bacterial resistance.
Many people with acne are prescribed antibiotics, which can help destroy the bacteria that grows inside the follicles, but they also destroy the beneficial bacteria that help support the activity of your intestines. If your intestines are not working efficiently, there will be an accumulation of toxins in the digestive system which can exacerbate acne. The body also develops a tolerance to antibiotics. This means you need larger and larger doses to get the same effect.
Antibiotics
If biological alternatives of treatment do not succeed after a six-month period, then a course of oral (systemic) antibiotics may be needed. A quick course of 5-7 days is safest. Antibiotics may cause some unwanted side effects. These usually appear when used over a long period of time. It is possible that antibiotics can exacerbate acne symptoms, or replace a primary infection with a secondary acne infection. Antibiotics may also induce yeast overgrowth symptoms, upset stomach, allergies, more susceptibility to sun-damage, yellowing of teeth, reduction in absorption of some vitamins and minerals, and more bacterial resistance.
A safer and alternative to chemical acne treatments is now available in the form of a natural skin care product to treat a wide range of skin conditions.
